Six DIY Methods To Keep Your House Rodent Free

Rodents such as rats, mice and bed bugs tend to invade the house every now and then. Getting rid of them on your own is not only difficult but also disgusting for some as these critters spread diseases. Before they pose as a serious threat to you or your family, it is best you have the situation under control. Not only do they spread diseases but tend to replicate and breed faster than you can imagine.

Helping get rid of them can be as easy as making one simple phone call to a professional rodent removal in Glen Cove NY or as easy as looking for them behind the walls. If you still wish to take matters into your own hands then here are a few ways you can prevent rodents from entering the house.

1.     Eliminate All Entry Points

It is best if you rodent-proof your house. In this way your house will remain safe from rodent infestation or them entering in the first place. Eliminate all points of entry and easy access for the creatures. Whether the openings are just an inch wide or more, just have them sealed.
Also seal any cracks in the walls or any other holes. Avoid using plastic, rubber or any other material for sealing that creatures like mice can easily gnaw.

2.     Usage of Mouse Traps is Necessary

The best way to help get rid of mice in an ongoing infestation is by laying mouse traps. The classic wooden traps do the trick for light to moderate mouse populations. Even if there is no infestation, still set the trap up once or twice a week to be sure there are not any mice hiding, waiting to breed.

3.     Choose an Appropriate Bait for Traps

It is critical that you pick a suitable bait to attract the rodents or pests. You can use whatever food the rodents have been eating in your home for bait. For example mouse-approved favorites are chocolate, peanut butter, bacon, oatmeal, dried fruit or hazelnut spread. So choose a bait, tie it in the trap carefully and set it.

4.     Placement of Mouse Trap Correctly is Mandatory

Place the traps perpendicular to the walls, with the trigger section facing the baseboard. This causes the mouse to run directly into the trap as it naturally scurries along the walls, instead of running over the trap from the wrong direction or triggering it prematurely.

5.     Have Bait Stations Set

Bait stations (or bait packages) are sealed packets containing meal or pellets. They typically come in plastic, paper or cellophane wrapping. This allows the mice to easily gnaw through and get at the preserved, fresh bait. The mice feed on this bait and die.

6.     Bad Sanitation Attracts Rodents

Bad sanitation also leads to not only the attraction of mice but bed bugs as well. Either you can hire a bed bug removal company in Glen Cove NY or you can try on your own. Latter being more difficult.
Vacuum your floors and be sure to wipe down counters, eliminating residue, crumbs and any access to food sources. Store food in glass jars or airtight containers. Don't forget about securing your garbage. Mice can survive on only three to four grams of food per day therefore little is enough for them.
